![]() At Memorial Memories we will undertake church yard restoration, be it straightening stones that are leaning through to moving and re-erecting as the following pictures show.
At this particular church yard many years ago thought was given to moving the headstones to the perimeter so that grass cutting and maintenance would be easier.
Unfortunately the job was not completed at that time and as a consequence stones were left around the edges and had become overgrown.
Those stones that were placed had moved and were tilting fairly badly. Our job was to straighten, move and re-erect to finish the work begun and to bring what is a very pleasant church yard in to a high standard that the church and the local residence would be proud of.
The work had to be completed totally manually so as not to disturb any of the spring flowers which were just coming into bloom.
Stones were rolled on a trolley across boards for the purpose of not disturbing the flowers.
On completion we gave the stones a clean so that the names could be read. For those with an interest in the history of the village and its people connections could be made between family members and their names will be there for future generations to find.

![]() ![]() These two pictures show some the stones prior to commencement of works and the other after straightening. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some of the stones took some serious digging to raise them enough to move, ready for re-standing so that their history might be seen again. ![]() ![]() An educated guess would put the weight of this polished granite late 17th century stone at around 1/2 a tonne. As with all the stones wooden roads were laid so that the trolleys could run without damaging the flowers. ![]() ![]() Three of Five stones that were all from one family laid together in a seperate area. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() These two pictures show a large stone ready for beid laid and the same stone in situ and cleaned ![]() ![]() We found another one ![]() ![]() 1697 and still clear to read after cleaning ![]() ![]() The base of this stone was re-pinned with stainless steel rods. The history that can be learned from this stone for any young person studying history cannot be stated enough ![]() ![]() Any church that is interested in our services can contact us on 01472 505221 or email memorial.memories@ntlworld.com.
